Kittyhawk Carpark

Project Details

Structural tree cells were built under the carpark. The Cells provide an ideal growing area under the carpark, allowing the tree to grow uninhibited.

WSUD Category: Tree pits

Criteria Information
Development Type:Public Open Space
Function/Driver:Water quantity/flood
Government Area:City of Swan
Site Context:Poorly draining soils
Year Completed:2017

Kittyhawk Carpark is a good example of at source infiltration, with next to no maintenance.

This project was a reconstruction of the carpark which had failed. Organic material was found under the carpark which required it to be excavated. As this work was being undertaken, it was decided to incorporate the tree cells and assist with drainage, canopy cover to minimise the heat island effect and to reduce infrastructure damage in the future from the trees.
