Effective sediment management is essential for maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems and improving water quality in urban settings. This fact sheet highlights opportunities for erosion and sediment management through WSUD.
Design Scale: Lot, Precinct, Street
Soil erosion refers to the wearing away of the earth’s surface due to natural forces like water, wind, and ice. The erosion process involves detaching, transporting, and depositing sediments, which can become pollutants when found in unnatural concentrations. Excess sediment can harm ecosystems, public safety, and infrastructure, often resulting from poor construction practices. Under environmental regulations, discharging sediment is prohibited.
This fact sheet is to be intended to be used by developers and local government to identify options to include WSUD and sediment management plan to deliver outcomes such as protecting environmental values, maintaining aquatic ecosystems and contribute to the wellbeing of Western Australians.
