Re-examining the of history Aboriginal land management – Why this is important for environmental professionals

Environmental practitioners know too well the damage that has been wrought on our environment over the last 240 years. In this webinar, Bruce will explain why our profession will need to better understand and draw on 65,000 years of Aboriginal knowledge on land management if we are to restore our environment and set Australia on a sustainable path. His highly acclaimed book, Dark Emu, argues for a reconsideration of the “hunter-gatherer” tag for pre-colonial Aboriginal Australians and rebuts the colonial myths that have worked to justify dispossesion. Bruce provide compelling evidence from the diaries of early explorers that suggest that systems of food production and land management have been blatently understated in modern retellings of early Aboriginal history, and that a new look at Australia’s past is required.
