Local Government has an important role to play in responding to and managing the ever-increasing impacts of increasing temperatures, natural disasters and sea level rise.

If ignored, the effects of climate change will have considerable impact on a Council’s infrastructure, public health, the natural and built environment, service delivery and legal liability.

The need for Local Governments to respond to and manage the impacts of climate change has never been greater.

With adaptation planning being the most effective at the local level, it aims to reduce the risks associated with climate change.

A key step in developing a Coporate Adaptation Plan is conducting a Climate Change Risk Assessment.

This one-day course has been designed for Local Government Officers involved in responding to climate change, by providing the skills and knowledge required to complete a first pass climate change risk assessment and corporate adaptation action planning.

Using case study information from their own organisations or regions, participants will have the opportunity to complete steps of a climate risk assessment during the training, to enhance their learning outcomes and gain the confidence to replicate this in real world scenarios.

This course integrates with the WALGA Climate Change Action Framework.
