WALGA is hosting an event on Towards Net Zero Emissions on Friday, 25 June.

We are delighted to announce that the Minister for Environment and Climate Action, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, will provide the opening address.

Local Government is a key player in the implementation of the State Government’s Climate Policy and the achievement of the net zero carbon emissions target by 2050. This year marks a critical time in responding to the global threat that climate change represents, with governments around the world expected to strengthen their contributions to the Paris Agreement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November.

This event will bring together the Local Government sector and key partners to discuss the policy framework, strategic initiatives and innovative projects occurring in Western Australia to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to an energy efficient economy.

The program will focus on key areas where Local Government can make the greatest contribution to reducing carbon emissions, including generation and purchase of renewable energy, smart street lighting, supporting the transition to electric vehicles, use of offsets, and facilitating community programs that have been catalysts for positive change.

The program will be available mid-June.

For more information, please email WALGA’s Event Manager, Ulrike Prill or call (08) 9213 2043.
