A Better Way to Build? WA’s Machinery of Government reforms in action

As a key partner in increasing WA’s housing supply, the development industry relies on collaborative and effective engagement with a number of State government agencies.

Machinery of Government changes announced in March 2025 by Premier Roger Cook aimed at supporting ‘a more resilient economy and a better way to build’, will start to take effect by 1 July 2025, with full implementation by 1 January 2026.  Major changes relevant to the property industry include the establishment of a Department of Housing & Works and a new look Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure. This is in addition to the transition of Keystart to a Government Trading Enterprise from 1 July 2025, providing industry with unprecedented partnership opportunities for built form projects.

Featuring a presentation from the Hon. John Carey MLA, Minister for Planning and Lands; Housing and Works; Health Infrastructure, you will hear about the impact and opportunities for industry in the years ahead including:

  • An overview of the Minister’s new-look portfolios
  • Status of the leadership appointments of the new agencies
  • Key priorities for major infrastructure and housing delivery
  • How industry will benefit from machinery of government changes
  • Keystart’s new mandate from 1 July and opportunities for industry
  • Priorities of the Federal Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council under a second term Albanese Government
