The purpose of the research has been to investigate the effectiveness of infiltration systems containing organic filter media. The research has led to an understanding of the specific mechanisms that result in filter media performance effectiveness. CORE has developed an accreditation system (BIOMASS) that uses processes developed from the research to identify the reactive characteristics of specific components and their relationship to factors including the effectiveness of pollutant removal, nutrient and water retention capacity, hydrology lifespan and vegetation growth and integrity.
