Several councils in Greater Melbourne have established innovative stormwater offset schemes, to improve stormwater management for greener environments and healthier waterways. Council run offset schemes can secure a low risk and sustainable funding source for investment in stormwater assets.

The February 2021 Stormwater Victoria webinar will provide attendees with:

·     an overview of how stormwater offset schemes work

·     outlines the benefits of establishing such a scheme

·     guidance to setup a stormwater offset scheme.

This presentation will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session with council officers who have lead the implementation of stormwater offsets at their councils and will cover the lessons learned. Panelists will include representatives from Kingston City Council, Moonee Valley City Council, Darebin City Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.

Speaker: Dr Jeremy Cheesman

Jeremy is an environmental and resource economist and Director at Marsden Jacob Associates. Marsden Jacob have been fortunate to work with Kingston, Mooney Valley, Darebin, Mornington Peninsula and other Victorian Councils to originate and implement the innovative stormwater offsetting approach now being run by these Councils. Jeremy was part of the 2018 Stormwater Management Advisory Committee that recommended Victoria establish effective council run voluntary stormwater quality offset schemes across the state in major metropolitan and regional centres.
