Site Tour Three – Wetlands of Boorloo (Perth) Walking Tour

Join Jason Barrow, proud Noongar man with Danjoo Koorliny, Nandi Chinna, researcher, poet and author of Swamp; walking the wetlands of the Swan Coastal Plain, Sarah Hill – Manager Parks at City of Vincent, and Winsome MacLaurin, lead for Kep Katitjin – Gabi Kaadadjan Waterwise Perth Action Plan 2 for an immersive and enlightening walk through Boorloo’s (Perth’s) inner northern suburbs. Learn about some of the work being done to reconnect to our urban wetlands, experience site-specific wetland and water poetry.
Visiting two of the original wetlands of the Boorloo region, Danjanberup (Smith’s Lake) and Boodyamooling (Hyde Park), we’ll explore how they have changed over time, glimpse a sense of place and connection to land and water. Pre-European settlement, these places were healthy and thriving ecosystems of which people were simply a part. With settlement this changed and at its worst saw Danjanberup being used as a rubbish dump and a cesspit. We are seeking to come full circle to restore both our understanding and connection to place in addition to supporting greening, biodiversity and caring for Country.
