Joelle Deeb

Joelle Deeb is an architect and researcher whose work explores the intersections of environmental justice, memory, and spatial practice. In 2024, she founded The Water Commons Archives–Syria, an open-source research initiative dedicated to documenting Syria’s water-bordering systems to support urban studies and educational outreach. Her work aims to understand the shifting spatial dynamics of water systems and their profound influence on the sociocultural landscape of the Middle East.

At the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, she presents Reimagining Waters from Source to Land: The Living Archive of the Orontes River, a multi-sensory installation tracing the cultural and ecological history of the Orontes River across Syria, Lebanon, and Türkiye.
