David Latham, Horticultural Supervisor at the City of Rockingham, will lead a tour of four of the City’s lakes and discuss the treatments applied, method and frequency of application, results from the analysis of water parameters, and cost considerations.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) will discuss their ALGALWATCH program, and the blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) analysis service that is available free of charge to Local Government.

The field tour is the first in a series of site visits to Local Governments that are implementing treatments to manage algal blooms in constructed lakes and natural wetlands.  The aim of the site visits are to assist Local Governments to learn about the available treatment options and their effectiveness, thereby optimising the use of scarce resources and increasing our collective understanding of options for wetland management.

The target audience is Local Government staff working in horticulture, parks and environment, catchment management and environmental health.

Places are limited to 20 participants. Bus transport to the lakes and lunch will be provided.
