The Australian Antarctic Program is committed to ensuring that Antarctica remains valued, protected and understood. The Australian Antarctic Division’s Environmental Stewardship Program within its Science Branch has a dedicated environmental management team who ensure that best practice environmental management is applied to all operational activities – including the operation of its 4 stations, aviation operations and the operation of the RSV Nuyina and its science systems. The AAD is based in Kingston, Tasmania – the gateway to Antarctica.

Kirsten is currently at Casey Station which is situated 3443 km south of Hobart and is Australia’s closest Australian Antarctic continental station. To get there, it takes a little over a week by ship or about 4-5 hours by plane to the Wilkins ice runway. Kirsten will be joining us live from Casey station and will share with you some of the environmental management activities she is undertaking while there and the challenges of ensuring best practice environmental management on the icy continent.
