The theme for the Conference is Water – The Foundation for Sustainable Development

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are an internationally agreed urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – to a sustainable future.  They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

But what are they really?
Did you know that water is an essential foundation across many of the Goals? How relevant are the Goals to a developed nation like Australia?  What about South Australia?

The 2023 Australian Water Association State Conference will explore the SDGs relevance to Australia across a range of lenses, providing an opportunity for the water sector to engage with related industries on how the goals relate to the current national and state context and debate their basis for our shared future.

Relevant themes include;

  • Remote community water supplies and First Nations access to safe and secure drinking water;
  • Water and the future of energy, including hydrogen;
  • Community engagement, empowerment and participation in and through water;
  • Water and productive and healthy urban communities.
