The City of Canning has a long history of delivering Living Stream projects. This presentation will cover some of the many examples such as the Lake Street Urban Stream project, Nurdi Park living stream and Bannister Creek restoration. It will cover some of the practical considerations and different ways that these projects can be delivered.
A particular focus of the presentation will be the Design and Construct nature of the recent AWA award-winning project, Lake Street Urban Stream, delivered in collaboration with LD Total. The presentation delves into the ecological benefits of living streams, emphasizing their potential to restore natural habitats, improve water quality, and mitigate the impact of urbanization on local ecosystems. By incorporating native vegetation and creating interconnected green corridors, these projects not only foster biodiversity but also provide recreational spaces for residents.
Meet your speakers;
Giles Pickard is the Principal Landscape Architect at the City of Canning and WA State President of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. He is passionate about the role that Landscape Architecture can play in the design of our cities and communities. He is particularly keen on the positive role that we can all take to collaborate across disciplines to protect and enhance our environment, and in particular within water and infrastructure projects, from the small scale to the large.
Shadra Pearson is an Associate Landscape Architect at LD Total. She has worked on a range of projects from large scale green fill estates, through to small scale and pro bono jobs that focus on social issues. Shadra is passionate about how Landscape Architecture can address these social issues from homelessness through to anti-social behaviour and beyond to the healing qualities of landscape, and the benefits that well designed and implemented landscapes can bring to communities. This has allowed and encouraged her to approach design differently, with social considerations at the forefront. This, coupled with her keen interest in environmental issues, in particular opportunity for biodiversity within both urban and fringe spaces, have led to some unique design approaches to Landscape Architecture.
