The Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is running a five-week public consultation to help inform development of an intergovernmental agreement on water.

The National Water Initiative (NWI) was established in 2004 between the state, territory and Australian governments to guide a more efficient, transparent, and sustainable approach to water resource planning and management in Australia.  With our vast landscape, variability in rainfall and extreme climate, Australia faces complex challenges in managing our water resources.

To help ensure the new agreement is robust and balanced in its approach, DCCEEW want to hear from governments and industry stakeholders, First Nations Peoples and the general public.

Find out more by joining a webinar the department will be hosting 11am – 12.30pm, Friday 19 April 2024.  The webinar will provide an opportunity to hear more about:

  • challenges and opportunities in water management in Australia
  • the proposed objectives and outcomes that a new agreement might include
  • next steps.
